About Lango

WHY WE STARTED A FOREIGN LANGUAGE FOR KIDS PROGRAM:

Lango was established on the belief that every American child should learn a second language. Frustrated by the lack of options to teach our own kids another language (and having met many other families with the same concern), we set out to create a program that would teach kids new languages in a way that kids will love.

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, Lango has locations across the US, from L.A. to New York City. We have recently opened up onto the international stage with classes in China, using the Lango Method to teach English. Our classes are full immersion, typically for children 6 months to 12 years. Our structured curriculum includes culturally based music, art, games, stories, movement and most importantly, PLAY!

WHY CHOOSE LANGO:

While play is at the core of our curriculum, we also know significant studies have reported that studying a foreign language over an extended period of time has been shown to accelerate cognitive development, resulting in higher math and English grades later in life, as well as higher SAT scores.

That may be something that is important to you, or for many others it is simply the wonderful sounds of another language spoken or the idea of making future travel for their little ones easier. We believe language skills are retained best when they are encouraged at home, so we make class materials such as storybooks, flashcards, puppet Cosmo Dog (our language helper) and language-specific music available for purchase as well.

WE HOLD PARENT COMMUNICATION NEAR AND DEAR:

Lango is not only an opportunity for enjoyment, we are also an educational resource and parent communication is a source of pride. We are happy to speak with parents about ideas on how to increase language learning in their child's day-to-day lives. As parents ourselves we know how important it is to know that your child is having fun and enjoying their educational experience.

ABOUT OUR METHOD & CAMPS:

At LANGO we use many levels of learning and multiple senses to help children understand and retain a new language. In a typical class they will see, hear and touch the things they are learning. If the lesson is "in" and "out", they will experience in and out in a variety of ways, maybe through parachute play or walking through rings or seeing the puppet Cosmo Dog work through an action. We call this "Adventure Learning" and this approach draws on various methods of teaching languages, including Total Physical Response, the Rassias Method and Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Taken in combination, these methods suggest that kids learn best when their entire person is involved–not just listening and speaking, but moving, singing, dancing, playing, feeling, creating and solving problems. At Camp Lango, we take Adventure Learning a step further, as kids follow the adventures of our characters the Lango Kids, and then go on their own "adventures," challenging activities that they feel great about completing.
