Lango is happy to launch a new phase of its foreign language curriculum. This new version improves on a curriculum that already has proven effective and entertaining over the last year of use with thousands of children. Our new curriculum employs Lango’s instructional method Adventure Learning while adding the following characteristics:
-Lessons are now outcome-driven, so that teachers instruct their classes with a clear understanding of exactly what kids should be achieving.
-Lango classes will now be offered for students through fifth grade, with more mature storylines in our books and a wider variety of activities in our classes.
-Our storybooks have become story-driven workbooks, so that younger children can still enjoy the escapades of the Lango Kids characters while older students can engage in simple literacy activities.
Finally, you will notice that these new workbooks are language non-specific – blank when first distributed! Students will customize these books with stickers in the target language, labeling vocabulary images as they go. Meanwhile teachers and students will access story text in both English and the target languages on the Lango website. We are very excited to move into this new phase of our program’s evolution and to serve our students even more effectively.
Our classes offer a uniquely developed curriculum which tailors activities to suit the age group of their students. Read our class descriptions to find the right class for your child!
Children in this class don't sit still for long! Accompanied by parents or caregivers, these young "students" (ages 1½ to 3 years) start learning a new language through a variety of activities designed to engage their minds and bodies. Music and movement form the foundation for the classes, as the children sing simple, rhythmic songs and dance, run, spin and jump around the room! Meanwhile, our teachers work with the accompanying adults, teaching them age-appropriate games and activities so that they can reinforce learning at home. These "playclasses" are great for parents and caregivers who want to learn Spanish alongside their children!
Fun and play form the foundation for our Preschool Spanish classes. Within two or three classes, kids ages 3-5 learn key phrases in their new language through simple, repeated songs and chants. Meanwhile, they become familiar with more complex aspects of the language by engaging in "adventures," art projects and movement-based games that require them to solve simple problems - in their new language, of course! These adventures, starring the Lango Kids, our multicultural cast of characters, take students to other lands and cultures to ensure that their language instruction is combined with cultural exposure. Preschoolers' Spanish is great for kids who are enrolled in preschool, but have not yet started kindergarten.
A strong cultural emphasis grounds our early elementary language lessons in the customs and traditions of Spanish-speaking peoples, while a simple literacy component ensures that these students not only listen, speak, sing and play in Spanish, but read and write as well. Our curriculum takes students on imaginary journeys where they work on fun problem solving adventures built around cultural themes. Lango is proud to partner with schools around the Bay Area to provide after-school Early Elementary Spanish to their students.
In addition to our weekly 45 minute class or 90 minute club learning formats, we offer a live, half hour weekly online meetup in between sessions to give kids and their parents a practical opportunity to use language skills and vocabulary already learned in class through conversation and discussion of a relevant cultural topic in the target language. Lango Cafe will feature a different topic each week and will be conducted in one of the three target languages.
